General maintenance guide to your inkjet printer:

In general, your inkjet printer will require very little in the way of maintenance. But regular cleaning will not only improve its appearance, but also prevent future printing problems. Make it a practice to clean the outside of the printer whenever you change the ink cartridge.

Use a damp cloth, but be careful that no moisture gets into the interior of the printer. Use a soft brush or a computer vacuum cleaner to remove dust from the paper path if necessary. The ink residue that builds up in most inkjet printers is typical and does not need to be removed -- alcohol or platen cleaners may damage the printer. In addition, do not use a lubricant on the metal rod the print cartridge moves on. Noise is normal when the cradle moves back and forth.

Cleaning the inkjet cartridges themselves can improve the performance of your printer, correcting missing lines or dots and eliminating streaks on the paper.

To clean your cartridges:

Turn printer on and lift the printer's top cover. After the print cartridges have moved to the center of the printer, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer. Remove the print cartridges and place them wide side down on a piece of paper.
